When Aldrovani wrote in 1610, Willoughby 1676 and John Moore in 1735, they described the Iskenderun race as a long, curled-beaked, strong race. It is John Moore who named this breed as Scandaroon in England.
The Germans named this race with names such as Nurnberger Bagdette, Pagadette, Pavdotte, Bagotten, Pagadotten taube and Hocker-taube. The French named Pigeon bagadais a grande morille. The reason why this race is called Iskenderun is because it was taken to the port of Iskenderun to Europe. Araştur studies indicate that this race brought into Turkey from Baghdad. In the south of Germany, Nurnberg, Erlangen, Fuhrt and Michelav Iskenderun are the regions where producers are concentrated. The first German Iskenderun pigeon association was established in 1895 and 170 members of Iskenderun were exhibited at the National Show with 35 members. In 1950, in the USA, George Neuerburg (N.P.A Master Breeder Certificate) was awarded the title and diploma of America's most expert Iskenderun producer.

İSKENDERUN PRODUCTION
Its production is more troublesome than other races. These birds do not have problems such as fertilization or lay eggs. The problem begins two weeks after the hatchlings hatch, and after the babies' beaks have grown, the rootstock is unable to feed the double brood of Iskenderun. (It has been seen very rarely.) The producers have to feed their eggs to the rootstocks by transferring their eggs under the mail pigeons or the Magpie (this breed is called Jewish in the Middle Eastern countries) to the rootstocks. . The homing pigeons are the best breed for this breed.
