History
It is known that it is a race originating from ancient times. It can be said that it is one of the rare races in the world in this sense, as it can maintain its racial characteristics to a certain extent today. The presence of figures of this pigeon in ancient Egyptian papyrus and stone carving shows that the history of Istanbulians dates back to very old times. It is a bird seen in ancient Egypt with the goddess of fertility.
In the past, these pigeons in the Arabian peninsula were called Mahomet (Muhammet). It is known that their naming in this way developed on the basis of a certain religious belief. This race started to be raised in Iran and Ottoman state in 1600s. This race was sent to Istanbul from England for the first time in 1868, during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abdülaziz. It spread to other European countries afterwards via the UK channel. Following the spread of pigeons to Europe, the name of these pigeons also changed. After this date, these pigeons were called Damascus and the name Muhammet was abandoned. Today, it is known in the world with this name.
Istanbulites are similar to dewlap breeds in terms of flight characteristics. They are used as fleet flyers. Their appearance in the air is very impressive. Her breasts are a little more prominent and wider. Eye color in Istanbul is dark orange close to red. The eyes are bright, but an important feature in the eyes is the shape of their eyes. The eyes are a little big, much more attractive and beautiful. The short and thick beak is black. The toenails are black. The feet are red and mild.
There is a certain color standard in the Istanbul race. These pigeons become blue. This color is like grizzly (soap) in our breeder pigeon race. The body is light colored. There is no henna on the chest. There is no color patch on the body. These pigeons are often striped. Its stripes are in dark black tone and in two rows on both wings. There are also scaly types of Istanbul. These types are like flinters in our pigeon pigeons in color, they are not only very common in our country. As a result of the broke of the Istanbul race with the Bağdadi race, a broken race called "Şafra" was developed. The variety of colors in the shafts is more. The blue color and scaly types of saffers are similar to those of Istanbul, they can only be distinguished at first glance with their larger bodies, longer feet and higher nasal density.
